Welcome to the Sea Angling Research Website!
'The Economic and Social Value of Sea Angling In England' is a research project that is being carried out as part of the Sea Angling 2012 Research Study. It will run throughout 2012 and report in Spring 2013.
About the Study
What is it about?
The aim of the study is to estimate the economic value of recreational sea angling in England and to understand more about its social benefits. This will provide valuable information about the importance of sea angling to the nation and will report to Defra. This study is part of the wider Angling 2012 study.
What is the point?
This Economic and Social Value study will be the first time sea angling’s economic value has been researched since the Drew study in 2004 and the first time ever its social importance has been researched. It will help sea angling develop and inform policy decisions..
What will it involve?
The main part of the study is a questionnaire survey of sea anglers to find out what they spend, what the social benefits are; and more about what they do. You can take the survey here.
The research will also involve face-to-face questionnaires with sea anglers in five case study sites so we know more about the local impact of sea angling in coastal communities.
Who are Substance?
Substance, with Cardiff and Newcastle Universities, have been commissioned to undertake the research. Substance is a research cooperative based in Manchester that has undertaken lots of research into the benefits of angling. Find out more.
